“We were unaware Gavin was still working with the club, but we will avoid it happening again in future so there can be no suggestion of any perceived conflict.”
Speaking on Monday night’s NRL 360, The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield described it as “a remarkable story.”
“In the history of the game I can’t recall a referee being banned from handling an NRL club,” he said.
Rothfield explained the situation “caught the NRL by surprise” with the NRL’s head of football Graham Annesley declaring it “won’t happen again.”
