A 2-year-old girl has died after being put to bed by her parents and walking out of the family home into the road, according to authorities.

On Friday, Sept. 13 at approximately 8:20 p.m. local time, troopers from the Michigan State Police's (MSP) Jackson Post responded to a "car versus a pedestrian crash" at the 200 block of Chicago Street in Allen Township, Hillsdale County, per a statement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by the MSP First District account.

"Upon arrival on scene troopers found a 2-year-old female toddler lying in the road," the statement read.

"A first responder was on scene performing life-saving measures, troopers assisted with life-saving measures until EMS arrived on scene and took over medical treatment," it continued.

The toddler was taken to Hillsdale Hospital, but later died from her injuries, police stated.

"Preliminary investigation shows that the child was put to bed by her parents in the home. While the parents were working around the home, the child got out of her bed and walked out of the house," MSP added.

The toddler ended up being "struck by a 2012 VW Jetta being driven by a 38-year-old male from Allen, Mi.," the statement confirmed, adding that "alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash."
