Chelsea are behind sixth-placed Newcastle on goal difference alone but, with the Magpies facing a tricky trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Wednesday, Mauricio Pochettino’s team could claim the advantage in the race for Europe with victory over Brighton.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are unbeaten in their past four Premier League fixtures and came from behind to win 3-2 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, scoring twice in the final 10 minutes to do so.

The Seagulls, meanwhile, have struggled in the later stage of this season, failing to score more than once in any of their last 14 matches in all competitions and winning just one of their last three home games – although their two defeats came against Arsenal and Manchester City.

With the hosts struggling for results, Chelsea should be able to take all three points back to London. But they last kept an away clean sheet at Fulham back in October so a shutout looks unlikely.

Brighton vs Chelsea tip 1: Chelsea to win and both teams to score @ 2/1 with Paddy Power

Chelsea have scored the joint-fifth-highest number of goals in the Premier League this season (73) and one man who has been central to their attack is Cole Palmer.

The 22-year-old has emerged as a surprise challenger for the Golden Boot with 21 goals in the league, as well as laying on 10 goals for his team-mates, including for Mykhailo Mudryk’s opener at the City Ground last Saturday.

Palmer has 11 goals across his last nine league appearances for the Blues and is likely to be heavily involved in and around the opposition penalty area on Wednesday.

Brighton vs Chelsea tip 2: Cole Palmer to score any time @ 13/10 with Paddy Power

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher was shown his marching orders in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge in December – a contest that Chelsea still won 3-2.

The 24-year-old has nine yellow cards to his name and can add another one here. But he is also no stranger to drawing fouls for his own side, with no player in either squad being fouled more often than his tally of 60 times, and we think he will win two more free-kicks at the Amex Stadium.

The closest Brighton player to Gallagher’s total is striker Joao Pedro, who has been brought down 58 times, and our 7/1 bet builder is completed by backing both players to be fouled at least twice.

Brighton vs Chelsea tip 3: Bet builder: Conor Gallagher to be carded, Conor Gallagher to be fouled two or more times and Joao Pedro to be fouled two or more times @ 7/1 with Paddy Power
