As Britons gear up for an extra non-working day in the sun this bank holiday, they may find that opening hours at their local store have changed.

Most supermarkets will operate as usual over Saturday and Sunday, but opening hours could change slightly on Monday 27.


With most stores tweaking their opening island closing times, it may be worth checking your local supermarket's schedule.

GB News has compiled a list of the UK’s major supermarkets and listed their respective opening hours this late May bank holiday weekend.



Tesco stores will remain open during the late May bank holiday, but opening hours may differ depending on store type and location.

The chain’s smaller outlets will be open as normal over the whole bank holiday weekend between 6 AM and 7 AM until 10 PM.

Opening hours at Aldi may vary depending on store location, but most stores across London will operate between 8 AM and 8 PM on May 27.

An entry on the supermarket’s website states: “Please head to our store finder to check your local store opening times.”

Asda will operate at typical store hours on May 24 and 26, meaning larger shops will welcome customers between either 6am and 10pm or 7am and 11pm on Saturdays, depending on their location.

Normal opening hours will remain in place at all Sainsbury's stores on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26.

Doors typically stay open between 8am and 8pm.

Lidl supermarkets will remain open at their usual hours over the Bank Holiday weekend, meaning they will welcome customers between 8am and 10pm across the UK.

Shoppers can double-check their local store’s opening hours by using the store finder.

Opening hours at Waitrose may vary depending on the location of the store, with shops expected to open between the hours of 7am and 9pm on Bank holiday Monday.

Closing times may also differ across the UK, with scheduled closing times ranging between 5pm and 10pm. Customers can find out more about their local store hours here.
