In “Presumed Innocent,” Gyllenhaal takes on the role previously played by Harrison Ford in the acclaimed 1990 film, as a tortured prosecutor accused of the murder of one of his colleague (and former lover). The story is originally based on the novel of the same name by Scott Turow. The show was officially renewed for a second season after Apple claimed that the show is the most-viewed drama in the platform’s history since its premiere on June 12.
In her review of the show, Variety TV critic Aramide Tinubu wrote that the show “soars because the audience is never quite sure what to make of Rusty. He is highly affable one moment and borderline narcissistic the next, leaving both his sincerity and his innocence perpetually up for debate. Moreover, several brilliant twists keep the viewer from getting too comfortable.”
Also currently ranking on the streamer are the Natalie Portman-led “Lady in the Lake,” a drama based on a string of real-life murders in Baltimore, in addition to seasoned classics such as “Ted Lasso” and “The Morning Show.”
