Western Bulldogs ruck Tim English had been pushed into Banks from behind but lost his footing so ended up making contact the Tiger’s legs, which resulted in him being flipped.

The 21-year-old lay on the ground motionless as medical staff rushed to attend to him.

Play was stopped for several minutes while he was loaded onto a stretcher and taken from the field.

Every Richmond player went over to Banks as he was taken straight down to the rooms.

“A hush goes around the ground,” Channel 7 commentator Alister Nicholson said.

“That was instant. And immediate, the response, as well. Thankfully, in some ways, it happened so close to the bench that the medical team could get out there within a split second.

“It was very obvious to all that the stretcher was going to be required straight away.”

Channel 7 boundary commentator Cameron Ling provided an encouraging update during the three-quarter time break.

“The club has told us that he is awake, he is doing OK, he’s down in the rooms, still at the ground,” he said.

“Obviously has a pretty bad headache and will be really closely monitored, as all players are when they have had a concussion. But he is doing OK, the club tells us.”

It continued Richmond’s nightmare run on the injury front this season.

Premiership midfielder Jack Graham had earlier been subbed off with another soft-tissue injury.

And Maurice Rioli jnr was left distressed in the final minutes of the game with what looked like a serious left leg injury.

Rioli’s legs got tangled underneath a tackle by Adam Treloar and was instantly on the ground in pain.

Medical staff came out before he was ultimately taken from the field on a stretcher.

The trio join the likes of Tom Lynch, Tim Taranto, Jacob Hopper and Josh Gibcus on a lengthy injury list.
